Final Race Status: THE RACE IS ON!

Fri. 28 February, 6:15 PM-- The roads are drying, the the parking lot at the Stonebrook Racquet & Fitness Club has been plowed, and conditions look good enough for us to hold the Predicted Time 4 Miler as scheduled. Yippee! The clouds should keep the temperature from dropping too much overnight, but some icy spots on the region's roads could still develop. So please drive safely on Saturday morning!

Also, the parking lot at Stonebrook only has room for about sixty cars. This should be fine if we have a low to moderate turnout, but if we get an unexpectedly high turnout, some folks may have to park up in the Stonebrook Farms community behind the fitness club.

Well, we hope we'll see you at the race on Saturday morning. And don't forget to take off your watch before the race!

Do you have a good sense of pace when you're running? If so, then this might be the race for you. (If not, come on out anyway!) When you sign up for the race, you will make a prediction of what your finishing time will be. Then you will remove your watch and run our new four mile course without any time cues (other than sunlight, about which we can do nothing). After everyone finishes, our crack team of mathematicians will figure out whose pre-race guesses came the closest to their actual finish times, and the best guessers get prizes! So consult your local psychic or mystic now. Note that this year's Predicted Time race is being held at the Stonebrook Racquet & Fitness Club, a few miles south of our old race site!

start time
I predict that the race will start at 9:30 AM.

registration and entry fees
No preregistration is necessary. Race day registration is from 8:30 to 9:15 AM. Entry fees are $3 for SVR members, $4 for non-members, and $1 for students. SVR membership applications will be available so that you can join the club on the spot and take advantage of the member discount!

course
Since the race is being held in a new location this year, we'll also have a new course! We decided to go back to a four miler, given that the series is overloaded with 5Ks. Our new route will take you along paved roads through the nearby Stonebrook Farms community. It'll be a little hilly, but it's not terribly hard, and it's a nice neighborhood, anyway!

location
Stonebrook Racquet & Fitness Club outside of Winchester, VA. The club is located approximately 3 miles southwest of Winchester, 25 miles from Front Royal, 20 miles from Berryville, 28 miles from Martinsburg, WV, and 92 miles from Washington, DC. You can view maps of the race site on either MapQuest or Yahoo Maps. (Note: MapQuest's driving directions feature might throw you a curve or two; from the south they might say something ridiculous about taking a u-turn onto Route 37. Otherwise the MapQuest directions seem somewhat okay. Yahoo, meanwhile, will send you on back roads for no reason, as is their wont.) By the way, if you're interested in learning more about the Stonebrook Racquet & Fitness Club itself, give 'em a call at (540) 662-7546! You can check out the club's facilities on race morning.

NOTE: The Stonebrook parking lot has room for about sixty cars. If the lot is full when you arrive, you can keep going up past the parking lot to Stonebrook's back entrance, and then you can park along the road up in the Stonebrook Farms neighborhood (on Greenfield Avenue or Sharon Drive). If you feel like carpooling to the race with a friend, that might help!
