About the SVR Winter Series Final women's standings: overall, age groups Final men's standings: overall, age groups For the first time in recent memory, two women have finished in a tie for first place overall in the SVR Winter Series! Monika Bracken had already clinched a first place finish after the seventh race in this year's series, and new SVR member Molly Castille had to win the Retro Ramble 3.8 Miler if she wanted to earn a tie with Bracken. Sure enough, that's what Castille did, and because we have no tie-breaking procedures in place, both of 'em get first overall! '98-'99 Winter Series champ Krista Farris took third place and wins her fourth Winter Series plaque for finishing in the series' top five. Meanwhile, newcomer Regina Gaetano lost out on a share of fourth place in this year's series by just four-fifths of a second! Had she beaten Mary Smith by one place at the Ramble, the two would've tied for fourth... but a last-minute sprint by Gaetano just barely fell short. Still, just as Smith did in her first Winter Series, Gaetano gets a plaque for fifth overall! A record eight women earned perfect attendance awards this year: Farris, Gaetano, Nancy Specht, Laura Shaffer, Angie Page, Kyra Brown, Carol Culvyhouse, and Colleen Snyder! (Mystery Distance Run co-race director Snyder didn't run her own race, but she gets an attendance credit for it.) Specht and Culvyhouse are the only ones who also got perfect attendance awards last year; Specht reportedly hasn't missed a Winter Series race in well over a decade. All eight of this year's winners will receive framed photos of themselves. Names of SVR members in the standings below appear in a blue-purple color, and names of runners with perfect attendance appear in bold. At each race, each runner was assigned points based on how they finished against members of their own sex-- 100 points for first, 99 for second, etc. The final tally of points, listed in the "best6" column, consists of each runner's best six point totals. Series awards will be given to the top five SVR members overall, to the top three SVR members in various age groups, and to any SVR members with perfect attendance.
