The day dawned bright and cool with seasonably cool weather after unseasonably hot weather the day prior. A record number of people turned out for the first race in the Winter Series, which took runners on a new course through Front Royal to see some of the highlights of the city. The official distance of the race was 3.45 as measured by Karsten Brown's GPS system (thanks Karsten). Cheesy prizes, such as gummy eyeballs, Fiddle Faddle, and Goo Goo Clusters, were given out for the best guesses with David Tufts and Daniel Arnold guessing the exact distance. Thanks to all the volunteers especially Wren and Alexander Snyder, who got up at 6:45 am to help mark the course. Also thanks go out to Myron Kremer, Kim Yeck, and her friend. I would also like to thank Randolph-Macon Academy for letting us run through their very lovely campus. Hope to see you next year when this race will no longer be a mystery.
