Runners Retreat

How the race will work: Sign up in advance or on race day at Runners’ Retreat or online at www.runnersretreat.com. You can choose to run the Medium Course or Short course. The race will begin at 7:30 AM and you have until 10:00 AM to complete the ‘course’ and return to Runners’ Retreat. Each runner will receive a set of clues, a coolmax tee shirt, a water bottle, a race number and other goodies.

You and your partner will also receive a race packet with a number of Civil War brochures and a map of Winchester. You will need a digital camera or cell phone to photograph you and your teammate at each location. If you have a ‘Smartphone’ and/or GPS you may use it to help solve the clues. You can also contact your friends for help if necessary or call the ‘help line.’

You will need to decipher each clue and run or walk to that spot. Once there, take a picture of you and your teammate then proceed to the next clue. After you find all the clues run or walk back to Runners’ Retreat. If you find all the clues correctly and complete your course by 10 AM, you will receive 10,000 points. However, there will be deductions for missed clues, calls to the help-line and late arrival. Deductions will be specified on race day.

Medium Course: Total mileage should be between 12 and 15 miles (plan carefully!)

Short Course: They will be close by but more difficult to find than the other courses. Total mileage should be around 5 miles.

NOTE: Teams will be presented a series of clues during the race instruction period from 7:15AM to 7:30AM.

In the unlikely event of a tie, the race director will present each team with a tie breaker clue.
Awards: Given to the first, second, and third place teams in each category.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Please carry your own water and any food you may need. Also, we recommend that you bring a fanny pack or backpack carry your supplies.
  • Respect private property — please do not climb fences or run through yards.
  • Remember the rules of the road and run on the left facing traffic. THIS IS NOT A CLOSED COURSE as there is no defined route for any of the options.
  • Run on a sidewalk or bike path whenever possible.
  • Have FUN!

ONE FINAL NOTE: Thanks for joining us for our third year! This is a different kind of race and a concept we hope to see grow and evolve over the next few years. IF we have any unforeseen problems, we will do our best to be fair in dealing with them and ask for your understanding and patience!

Your suggestions are welcomed and appreciated!
