We have another great year organized and hope to see you out there running in the cold and snow! New for this year is a “Let It Snow” long sleeve tech shirt for runners that sign up for the whole series. The new\u00a0 logo\u00a0 was designed by Duane Williamson. Fantastic!<\/p>\n

Before signing up for the Winter Series, remember to update your 2017 membership so that you get the 20% member discount on the Series.<\/span> That means for an SVR member you will pay $36.00 not $45 for the entire Series. That’s right, only $36.00 for all eight races.\u00a0 Membership also gets you discounts at SVR sponsored races throughout the year and is only $10 per year for an individual.\u00a0 If you are a new member and sign up now, your membership will begin now and continue through 2017. We are glad you are visiting our website but keep in mind that our Facebook page<\/a> is where we post the latest news and any changes in schedule. This is particularly important during our Winter Series. The website is pretty static with general information about upcoming races and information about things like our scholarships and club awards. We also are increasingly using RunSignUp.com <\/a>for registration and for posting results. If registration was done through RunSignUp then that is where the results for that race will be posted. We will be using RunSignUp again for Winter Series registration. The SVR club’s RunSignUp link<\/a> also has general information about the club, membership info, nearby races, and contact information.<\/p>\n

SVR Statement about Headphones, Strollers, Dogs at Our Races<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Shenandoah Valley Runners promotes health and fitness through running by sponsoring more than 30 races each year. It is important to us that our races are safe and fair.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
In order to have our races, we need the insurance provided by our parent club, the Road Runners of America. After lengthy discussions, the SVR Board has decided to follow the RRCA recommendations that strongly advise against allowing strollers, dogs and headphones at races.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
Unlike running alone with a stroller or headphones, races often involve hundreds of runners. They run on unfamiliar roads open to traffic with road hazards such as potholes, loose gravel, blind turns, distracted drivers, narrow shoulders, and given that this is the Shenandoah Valley, major hills. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
While SVR tries to make our race courses as safe as possible through good course management, marshaling, and marking, we believe that runners have a responsibility for their own safety and the safety of the runners around them by paying attention and running without distractions such as headphones.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

We are a community of runners. We try to have the safest races possible. We hope that runners will come to our races for the camaraderie, competition, and fun, but we ask that runners please leave their strollers, dogs and headphones at home.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
